Conversations with Reggae Star Bushman in The San Diego Sports Arena

bushmanI was leaving the San Diego Sports  Arena when I was approached by Mr. Dwight Duncan a.k.a.Bushman who asked about transportation back to the hotel, I proceeded to assist the artist in finding the van designated to transport us both back to the hotel. As opportunity came my way I  decided to interview the bright soul.

M.T.  Blessed love ,It is February 18th 2002 live at the Bob Marley Day Celebration and Bushman is in my presence! Greetings my brother and welcome inside a wonderful and positive vibes! Respect to Bob Marley!

B.M. Yeah Mon! It is a joy and a blessing .Bob Marley  is a blessing to I-n-I within the reggae fraternity, and within that I-n-I take pleasure to really be here to perform and black some sounds of Bob Marley in my performance and it has been a pleasure yuh know!

M.T. Your last album ,”Higher Ground” demonstrates your prolific writing skills, the message is very strong and I believe that an album of this caliber deserved a grammy nomination.

B.M. Well you know it takes time … because look at Beres  Hammond he has been working  for a couple of years well and he just got nominated but, he has done so many  Great albums. Luciano is there also and I know within the next two…three…or four year who knows ! ‘laughs’.. I will do my best cause only the best is good enough until that time comes. I know that I am promising because of the feedback that I get, It is not that I am praising myself but this shows self confidence and I know that one day I will have that Grammy hanging on my wall or sitting on my dressing table. RASTAFARI!

M.T. You should also remember when the people respond to your music it is just as rewarding as receiving an award from the music organization. It is a spiritual accomplishment. What are you doing in 2002 in terms of new music?

B.M. I have done a couple of recordings with John John,  who is the son of King Jammys, I did a single with Mighty Mike who is a radio personality in Jamaica, and I’m doing a new album which consists of only live tracks .The executive producer is Colin levy of the Kings Of Kings label you know Iley Dread. I am also working with my band in the studio doing those live tracks and we will be collaborating with various musicians otherwise you know! This is what we are really doing now and there are two singles already released from this album ,”Set them free” and “Lighthouse” which is produced by A&A from NYC they call it ‘Art To Art’. I have nine tracks from that album that is in the studio other than the two singles that are being released right now, so we are getting there .I think this album will consist of 13 to 15 tracks ,so we are really working hard even in between the tours.

B.M. I just came from Europe touring for a month and I spent eight days in Jamaica then we were off to this Bob Marley Day event. I will settle in Jamaica for the month of march and take some rest time and ting and then I’ll be off to Europe for the summer festivals. In between the rest times I plan to go in the studio when I feel the vibes, and when I  feel strong enough cause you know we have to rest and come again.Rastafari!

M.T. Have you worked at this BMD celebration over here on the west coast before?

B.M. No, This is really my first time ,that is why I stay confident and know that next time I’ll   be in the primetime .Well, I should say I am in the primetime now because there were a lot of people in the arena when I was performing but I know that next time I will get to perform a little bit later when I will have more crowd and exposure. Blessed Love !

M.T. Where will you be heading after you leave California ?

B.M. I will stop in Miami for a press conference . Sting that is kept in Jamaica will be held in Miami on the 24th of march. I will return to Jamaica to get some rest .Rastafari

M.T. I give thanks for the strength in the music and you keep up the positive works until we meet again. Blessed Love everytime !

B.M. Yeah Mon , give Thanks and Praise ….
