After a very strange week of incidents (such as my bicycle being
stolen Thursday and then getting it back from the culprit that borrowed it for his adventure, I
must give thanks to the creator for having it returned to me) I woke up Sunday realizing
that my clock took a hour from me which means in this side of the town (NYC) that is about
to get cold and depressing. Anyhow I am supposed to be at the River Side Church in
Manhattan at 3 pm for a service of Thanksgiving in memory of the Caribbean victims of the
World Trade Center (WTC) disaster on September 11 ,2001. This service brought different
representatives from the different Islands including the Prime minister of Jamaica P.J
Paterson. The event went on until 6 pm which meant I couldn't tarry because I was pressing
for time. Brooklyn's Wingate High School was to hold the Caribbean American Gospel
entertainment show at 6. Since I entered the venue late a patron told me Resurrection,
Arise, and Kadajah Rowe had already performed and you can just feel the energy in room
that they left behind. It was time for me to get my camera together and as I picked my
head up there was a beautiful lady by the name of Joan Myaz who had the audience on their
feet from beginning to end. At one point she left the stage and went down where the fans
were dancing and singing. I later found out that she is the sister of reggae singer and
musician Benjy Myaz, so I can see the talent runs in the family. She got the multitude
ready for Lt. Stitchie who was performing for the first time in Brooklyn since being
saved. He also begged the dancehall artists to clean up their acts and to fast and pray.
One thing I noticed about Stitchie is that he usually has his fans eating out of his hands
then he still have them begging for an encore. But pressing for time the closing act for
the night Papa San had to grace the stage. With a smile and a prayer before he performed,
he had the whole hall in a trance - he give his fans what they wanted and some. Overall
this event
turned out to be wonderful. This Gospel show from I arrived till I
departed I noticed folks dancing and plain old enjoying themselves, something I thought
Christians are not supposed to do. But even they have to have an outlet I don't think the
creator say you can't dance but if it start looking like bedroom thing then I guess
that's where you hold the brakes.
